Join Larry Lindahl Photography for his White Pocket Photo Workshop, August 20-23, 2020. The inspirational and educational journey visits the red rocks of Sedona, a secret slot canyon in Page, a 4×4 guided journey to Alstrom Point overlook of Lake Powell, and an overnight for sunset and sunrise at White Pocket. Photoshop and Lightroom class instruction is included.
Straddling the Arizona-Utah border, this backcountry adventure takes you to lands where Earth and sky meld together in surreal desert landscapes. An unrivaled tapestry of color and textures like none other on earth. Let your seasoned guides with decades of Colorado Plateau exploration take you to their favorite backcountry locations. Here you will experience a literal photographer’s dreamscape. A wonderland of exotic geologic shapes and patterns. This tour hubs out of the communities of Sedona, Page, and Kanab. Don’t miss this rare opportunity during the magic of monsoon season, when clouds and rainbows mingle with the landscape.
It all starts with a sunset in the world-famous red rocks of Sedona. We will capture images of the sandstone cliffs as they are kissed by the last light of the day. Next day, we will visit a secret slot canyon near Page with only a handful of visitors at any given time. This slot beckons with sculpted sandstone curves and reflected light similar to but not overcrowded like Antelope Canyon. Later that day will be a rugged off-road 4×4 adventure to reach a majestic overview of Lake Powell framed by Navajo Mountain and Gunsight Butte. Sunset at Alstrom Point is nothing short of magical, as we watch the light dance and change colors over the cliffs and water.
The next morning we will have a classroom session to review and post-process our images. You will learn workflow solutions in both Lightroom and Photoshop. Each participant will present five images from each photo location. Our destination this day is an overnight trip to the elusive White Pocket. A hard-to-reach gem in the Utah outback that inspires photographers to reach new depths with endless creative possibilities. You will be guided through otherworldly compositions full of twisted and curved sandstone shapes. Explore the brain rock textures (polygonal fracturing), taffy rock, and stripes and curves leading you to your next vista. The trip is fully outfitted with all camping details and meals provided. Night photography is an option, too.
After a sunrise shoot at White Pocket, we will break camp and begin our journey back to Sedona. One last session of image reviews and post-production techniques will take place at Larry’s home in beautiful Sedona. We will provide a complimentary take-out Asian dinner to enjoy on his deck before the Lightroom/Photoshop demonstration session in his living room. After the session we say our farewells to complete our wonderful experience together.
